VOA News - Special English

The Voice of America was funded by the US government in 1942. Its programs are broadcasted by radio, Internet  and satellite TV all over the world. Special English programs use "clear and simple" English. The sentences are short and they have a core vocabulary of about 1,500 words. The programs are read in about two-thirds the speed of standard English. You can download the programs in MP3 format and read the transcriptions. It is a great source of news, information and cultural facts from the United States. Strain your ears ! Link
